Harry Nilsson and Terry Southern
In the early 1980, Harry Nilsson and Terry Southern formed Hawkeye Entertainment. Hawkeye's first project was a film called
Obituaries based on a screenplay by Roger Watkins which was re-written as Obits by Nilsson and Southern.
Later that year, they assigned the rights to the newly formed company Hawkeye Entertainment. A black comedy about a frustrated
tabloid reporter who goes to Texas to investigate a strange obituary notice and enters the bizarre, surreal world of a group of crazy
millionaires was never produced.
Together Nilsson and Southern penned the screenplay for The Telephone. The film starring Whoopi Goldberg was
produced by Esparza/Katz Productions and Hawkeye Entertainment with Rip Torn directing. The film was a modest success when released in 1985.
