Jerome Kern was born on January 27, 1885, in New York, New York.
As a teen, Kern attended music school in Europe, but dropped out to work in London theaters. Kern was as a rehearsal pianist and wrote songs used in productions.
In the late 1920s, Kern began writing songs for Broadway. In late 1927, Show Boat opened on Broadway with music by Oscar Hammerstein II and Kern.
In the 1930s, Kern continued to compose music for the stage and began composing music for films. He won two Oscars for his music.
In 1945, Kern returned to Broadway for a revival of Show Boat, but unfortunately died on November 11, 1945, before the play opened. Visitor Comments: |
