Marvin Percy Rainwater was born in 1925. A classically-trained pianist, Rainwater turned to guitar after an accident injured his right thumb. His first band featured Roy Clark on lead guitar.

Rainwater wrote "I Gotta Go Get My Baby" which was recorded by Teresa Brewer. Although Rainwater was more interested in songwriting than recording, a performance on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts TV program landed Rainwater appearances on Godfrey's morning show.

Rainwater's "Gonna Find Me A Bluebird" reached number 3 on the country charts and 18 on the pop charts.
