Dustin Hoffman

"Comic Relief VI" was broadcast live on HBO the evening of January 15, 1994. Although two of the hosts, Robin Williams and Whoopi Goldberg, had worked with Harry Nilsson, it was Dustin Hoffman who took a moment to mention the passing of Harry Nilsson who died earlier that day.

Hoffman was born on August 8, 1937, in Los Angeles, California.

Hoffman earned an Oscar nomination for The Graduate in 1967. He was nominated again for his role as "Ratso Rizzo" in Midnight Cowboy in 1969 then for Lenny in 1974, and for Tootsie in 1982.

Hoffman won his first Oscar for Kramer vs. Kramer in 1979. His performance in a TV version of "Death of a Salesman" earned an Emmy. He received his second Oscar for the 1988 film Rain Man.

Hoffman's many other films include Little Big Man, All the President's Men, and Marathon Man.
