|Steve Forbert was born in Meridian, Mississippi in 1954.
At 21, Forbert moved to New York, New York.
Forbert signed with Nemperor Records (a Columbia subsidiary). He first album Alive On Arrival was released in 1978. The album was well-received by the critics. His second album, Jackrabbit Slim, released in 1979, produced the top 20 single, "Romeo's Tune."
In the mid-1980s, Forbert moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and signed with Geffen. He released two albums with Geffen, Streets Of This Town in 1988 and The American In Me in 1992.
In 1995, Forbert signed with Giant Records (a subsidiary of Giant Records) and released several albums.
In 2000, he released Evergreen Boy on the Koch Records label.
In 2002, Forbert released an album of Jimmie Rodgers songs called Any Old Time.
