"I'm Popeye the Sailor Man" was written in 1933 by Sammy Lerner for Popeye's film debut in "Popeye the Sailor", a Betty Boop cartoon. It took Lerner just two hours to write the song.

Robin Williams performed the song in the 1980 film Popeye which featured original songs and music by Harry Nilsson.
