'Punch-Drunk Love' staggers around in search of a purpose

Houston Chronicle
United States
October 24, 2002
A review of the film Punch-Drunk Love starring Adam Sandler as "Barry Egan."

"I'm not sure exactly why a car flips over in the street outside Barry's warehouse just before the harmonium appears. Or why the film includes a fight scene in which the nerdy Barry goes Vin Diesel upside the heads of some nasty goons. Or why Shelley Duvall's rendition of "He Needs Me", a Harry Nilsson song she warbled in Popeye, plays in its entirety (but I'm glad it does)."
